The first Sunday of August is celebrated as the International Friendship Day. This year, the day falls on July 31, 2015. On the day the friends that matter in our lives are cherished and remembered. With the popularity of social media, friends can be reached easily these days and sharing their photos and message in social media has been very popular lately.
This day had been celebrated in South American countries for many years. Paraguay first proposed World Friendship Day in 1958.
On the day, flowers, cards and wrist bands are exchanged. On April 27, 2011, the United Nations declared July 30 the official International Friendship Day. But, it is a tradition to celebrate it on the first Sunday of August.
